Legend has it that Constantin was named after the Roman emperor who ruled until 357 AD, and that a villa dating from his era lies beneath the vines. True or not, it is an established fact that the area between the Durance River and the Luberon Mountains has been recognised for its fine wines since well before the Roman invasion of France.
Today, midway between Aix-en-Provence and the Northern Luberon, our village of Lourmarin is deemed by many to be the heart of Provence and, indeed, the most typical of Provençal villages.

Constantin-Chevalier stradles three communes, Lourmarin, Cadenet and Puyvert, and is bordered by the L'Aygues Brun River. Over the centuries, a thick carpet of giant pebbles has accumulated along the banks of this river. These are the famous gallets, similar to those of Châteauneuf du Pape, which through heat and reflection create a microclimate uniquely beneficial to our vines.
